Senior Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead software design – anywhere from low-level drivers to application-level architectures and in various programming languages
    • Software requirements analysis
    • Perform software modeling and simulation
    • Define microcontroller application architectures
    • Delegate portions of the design to be completed by a team
  • Lead coding and debug activities – depending on project scale via mentoring junior engineers and/or self
    • Lead code reviews
    • Track and report code metrics, system risks, and program reliability
    • Perform software testing and document results
  • Support, maintain and document software functionality
  • Facilitate software integration for customer application
  • Serve as a technical lead and mentor to other engineers

Required Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, developing, and testing embedded software to detailed requirements
  • Technical leadership experience
  • BS in Electrical Engineering (BSEE/BSE), Computer Engineering (BSCE) or Computer Science (BSCS)
  • High proficiency in software development utilizing the C programming language
  • Familiar with many embedded communications standards (SPI, I2C, UART, RS-XXX, Ethernet, CAN, LIN, USB, etc.)
  • Experience with various microcontrollers, cores, and technologies (ARM, Freescale, Microchip, Texas Instruments, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with various types of programming languages (C++, C#, Ada, Java, etc.)
  • Experience with related embedded engineering disciplines (HW, FPGA)
  • RTOS development experience (Linux, VxWorks, QNX, etc.)
  • Experience in safety-critical markets (aerospace, medical, automotive, and military/defense industries)
  • Experience with wireless technologies (Bluetooth, WiFi, Mesh, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of software certification processes (ARP4754A, DO-178, or similar)
  • Knowledge of fly-by-wire flight control software
  • Experience with FMS systems
  • Working knowledge of Python and other scripting languages (Perl, Ruby, TCL, etc.)
  • Experience implementing and testing flight software with Level A Design Assurance Level processes
  • Experience using hypervisors and/or Xen
  • Experience with version control (DOORS, Subversion, Git, etc.)

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 

  • Regularly required to stand or sit, reach, bend and move about the facility
  • Work in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time while working on a computer
  • Ability to travel to undertake travel to customer sites between 5 to 10% of the time
